국제인권기구인 국제사면위원회 (Amnesty International)는 유럽연합 국가들에게 수감자들의 사형과 고문에 사용될 수 있는 제품의 수출을 통제할 것을 촉구했습니다.
영국 런던에 본부를 둔 이 기구는 유럽연합 국가들이 이와 관련해 지난해 도입한 규제조치를 확대할 것을 촉구했습니다. 현재 시행되고 있는 규제들에 따라 수감자들을 제압하기 위해 사용되는 가스처형실과 고압 전기벨트 등의 수출입이 금지돼있습니다.
국제사면위원회는 유럽연합의 전체 27개 회원국 가운데 불과 11개국이 이같은 규제에 상응하는 법을 제정했다고 말했습니다.

A leading international human rights group is urging European Union countries to implement export controls on products that could be used in capital punishment and to torture prisoners,
London-based Amnesty International urged EU states to expand the restrictions introduced last year. The current regulations ban the import and export of such things as gas chambers and high-voltage electrical belts used to restrain prisoners.
Amnesty International says only 11 of the 27 member states of the EU have enacted laws in accordance with the regulations.
The organization also wants the EU countries to expand the list of banned items to include such things as something called "the stinging stick" -- a baton with eight-centimeter spikes -- and ropes specifically designed for executions.
Amnesty International says the ropes have been used for executions in India, Sri Lanka, and Trinidad and Tobago
