국제원자력기구, I-A-E-A는 이란이 우라늄 농축활동을 중단하라는 유엔 안전보장 이사회의 요구를 이행하지 않았다고 말했습니다.
I-A-E-A는 22일, 안보리에 제출한 이란 핵문제에 관한 조사보고서 에서 이란의 우라늄 농축 활동 중단 요구를 이행하지 않았다고 밝힘으로써 안보리가 이란에 대해 추가 제재를 가하는 길을 열어놓았습니다.
I-A-E-A 보고서는 이란이 나탄츠 지하 핵시설에서 농축 우라늄에 사용되는 원심분리기 등 관련 장비들을 설치해 놓았다고 확인하고 그러나 원심분리기 안에 우라늄 가스를 주입하지는 않았다고 밝혔습니다.
미국 국무부의 톰 케이시 대변인은 이란이 유엔 안보리 결의를 이행하지 않은 것은 이란 당국이 기회를 놓진 것이라고 말했습니다. 그러나 이란의 핵문제 고위 담당관이 모하마드 사이디는 이란이 우라늄 농축 중단 요구를 받아들일 수 없다고 선언하고 그 이유는 우라늄 농축 중단 요구는 국제협정에서 인정되는 이란의 국가적 권리에 반하는 것이기 때문이라고 주장했습니다.

The United Nations nuclear watchdog agency says Iran has failed to suspend uranium enrichment as demanded by the U.N. Security Council.
The International Atomic Energy Agency issued the finding in a report to the Security Council today (Thursday), clearing the way for the council to possibly impose further sanctions on Iran.
The report says Iran has installed two cascades or networks of uranium enriching centrifuges at its underground nuclear plant in Natanz. However, the report says Iran has not fed uranium gas into the centrifuges.
On December 23rd, the council set a 60-day deadline for Iran to end the enrichment work, and banned Iran's trade in sensitive nuclear and missile technology.
A U.S. State Department spokesman (Tom Casey) said Iran's failure to comply with Security Council demands represents "a missed opportunity" for Tehran.
A senior Iranian nuclear official (Mohammad Saeedi) said Iran can not accept suspending uranium enrichment because it is contrary to its rights under international treaties.
