이 대변인은 부시 대통령은 영국군의 철수를 영국군이 이라크 인들에게 보다 많은 통제권을 이전할 수 있다는 성공의 징후로 보고 있다고 말했습니다.
현재 약 7천명의 영국군은 미국 주도 연합군의 일원으로 주로 이라크 남부에 주둔하고 있습니다.
한편, 덴마크 또한 이라크 주둔 덴마크 군의 철군 계획을 발표할 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair is expected to announce today (Wednesday) a timetable for British troops to start withdrawing from Iraq.
British media reports say Mr. Blair is to announce that 15-hundred soldiers may start pulling out of Iraq within a few weeks and another 15-hundred by the end of the year.
The prime minister's office declined to comment on the reports.
But in Washington, a White House spokesman (Gordon Johndroe) said President Bush and Mr. Blair spoke by telephone Tuesday to discuss the troop withdrawal.
The spokesman said Mr. Bush views the withdrawal as a sign of success since British forces are able to transfer more control to Iraqis.
About seven thousand British troops, serving as part of the U.S.-led coalition, are mostly based in southern Iraq.
Denmark is also expected to announce plans to begin withdrawing its troops from the area.
