호주정부는 지난주 베이징에서 타결된 ‘9.19 공동선언 초기단계 이행조치’에 관한 합의를 지지하길 바란다고 하워드 총리는 덧붙였습니다.
북한은 최근 베이징에서 열린 회담에서 영변 핵 시설을 폐쇄, 봉인하고 국제 원자력 기구 (IAEA) 의 사찰을 받는데 동의했습니다.
하워드 총리는 이 문제에 관해 19 일 조지 부시 미국 대통령과 논의했다고 말했습니다.
호주는 북한과 외교관계를 맺고있는 몇몇 서방국들 가운데 하나입니다.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard says he will send representatives to North Korea in the next few weeks to discuss restoring diplomatic relations, following Pyongyang's agreement to begin closing its nuclear facilities.
Mr. Howard says Australia wants to support a deal reached last week in which North Korea agreed to seal its main nuclear reactor and open its facilities to international inspectors in exchange for fuel aid.
South Korea, the United States, China, Japan and Russia helped broker the deal in Beijing after three years of negotiations.
Mr. Howard says he discussed the deal with U.S. President George W. Bush. Australia is one of the few western countries to have diplomatic relations with North Korea.
