북한에서 전염병인 홍역의 만연으로 3천여명이 감염됐으며 최소한 네명이 사망했다고 국제 구호기구가 말했습니다.
국제 적십자사 연맹 (IFRC)은 지방 보건소에서 치료받고있는 환자 수가 약 1천명에 달하며, 대규모 예방접종이 실시되고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
국제 적십자사 연맹은 북한 당국이 홍역 백신 약 5천명 분을 제공해줄 것을 여러 국제 구호단체에 요청했다고 말했습니다.
지난해 11월 이후 북한내 30개 군에 홍역이 퍼졌으나 북한의 지방 보건당국이 홍역환자를 풍진에 걸린 것으로 잘못 진단함에 따라 확인이 늦어졌습니다.
북한은 지난주 세계보건기구 (WHO)가 제공한 실험 도구를 이용해 홍역이 발생했음을 확인했습니다.
국제 적십자사 연맹은 지난 1992년에 북한에서 홍역이 완전퇴치된 것으로 알려졌었기 때문에 확인에 시간이 걸렸다고 설명했습니다.

An international aid group says a measles epidemic in North Korea has killed at least four people and sickened three-thousand others.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says local health facilities are treating about one-thousand patients and a mass vaccination campaign is under way.
It says North Korea has requested five-thousand doses of vaccine from international aid agencies. Measles has spread to 30 North Korea counties since November, but local authorities did not confirm the outbreak until last week with the help of World Health Organization testing kits.
The federation says the diagnosis was delayed because measles was thought to have been eradicated from the country in 1992 and local health officials initially misidentified the disease as rubella.
