이스라엘의 에후드 올메르트 총리는 조지 부시 미국 대통령과 팔레스타인이 국제적인 요구에 부응하지 않을 경우 팔레스타인의 단합 정부를 거부하기로 합의했다고 밝혔습니다.
올메르트 총리는 팔레스타인 정부가 폭력사태를 포기하고 현존하는 이스라엘의 권리를 인정하며 앞서 이스라엘과의 평화 협정을 지키지 않을 경우 팔레스타인과의 협력은 없을 것이라고 말했습니다. 올메르트 총리는 지난 16일 부시 대통령과 전화로 이 문제를 논의했다고 말했습니다.
올메르트 총리는 미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무 장관이 18일 라말라에서 팔레스타인의 마흐무드 압바스 자치수반과 회담에 들어간 가운데 이같이 말했습니다. 라이스 장관은 압바스 수반과 회담을 마친 뒤 19일 자신과 압바스 수반 그리고 올메르트 총리간 3자 회담을 갖기에 앞서 올메르트 총리도 만났습니다.
라이스 장관은 압바스 수반에게 통합 정부 합의가 국제적인 요구에 부응하는 것은 아니지만 미국은 팔레스타인 정부가 구성될 때 까지 그에 대한 판단을 보류할 것이라고 말했다고 관계관들은 전하고 있습니다. 관계관들은 압바스 수반이 통합정부 합의를 옹호했다고 말했습니다.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says he and U.S. President George Bush have agreed to boycott the Palestinian unity government if it does not meet international demands.
Mr. Olmert says there will be no cooperation unless the Palestinian government renounces violence, recognizes Israel's right to exist, and honors previous peace deals.
Mr. Olmert said he spoke with Mr. Bush about the issue by telephone on Friday. Mr. Olmert spoke as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice began talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
She met later with Mr. Olmert, ahead of a three-way conference on Monday.
Officials say Rice told the Palestinian president that the unity deal does not meet international demands but that Washington is reserving judgment until a government is formed. Officials say Mr. Abbas defended the deal.
