중국의 실제 종교 인구가 정부의 통계보다 3배나 더 많은 것으로 상하이 대학이 실시한 최근 여론 조사결과 밝혀졌습니다.중국 관영 ‘차이나 데일리’지는 상하이 화둥사범 대학 교수진이 4천 5백명을 상대로 실시한 여론 조사 결과, 16세이상 중국인의 31.4퍼센트가 스스로를 종교인으로 믿고 있는 것으로 나타났다고 보도했습니다
이 여론 조사 결과, 약 2억명의 중국인들이 불교나 도교, 용왕신이나 재물신등 전설적 존재를 믿는 것으로 나타났습니다.
차이나 데일리지는 또 전체 종교인의 12퍼센트, 4천만명이 기독교인들로 나타났다고 보도했습니다.
지난 2005년 중국 정부 당국은 중국내 기독교 신자가 1천 6백만명이라고 발표했었습니다.

A recent poll by a Shanghai university finds that the number of religious believers in China is three times larger than official figures show.
The state-controlled China Daily newspaper says the poll of four-thousand-500 people by professors at East China Normal University reveals that 31-point-four- percent of Chinese aged 16 and older consider themselves religious. The figures equal to 300 million Chinese, three times more than government projections.
The poll says that about 200 million people are Buddhists, Taoists or worshippers of figures such as the Dragon King and God of Fortune.
China Daily says the poll shows that 12 percent of all believers, or 40 million people, are Christians. In 2005, the government said there were 16 million Christians in China.
China's officially atheist Communist government recognizes only state-approved churches, temples and mosques.
