소말리아의 압둘라히 유수프 대통령은 16년동안에 걸친 상쟁세력들 간의 분쟁을 해결하기 위해 국가화합회의를 개최하는데 동의했습니다.
유수프 대통령은 30일 에티오피아 수도 아디스아바바에서 열리고있는 아프리카 연합 (AU) 정상회의에서 이같이 발표했습니다.
유수프 대통령은 소말리아 상쟁세력 지도자들과 종교계, 정치단체 지도자들이 국가화합회의에서 만나게될 것이라고 말했습니다.
루이스 미셸 유럽연합 개발담당 대표는 소말리아의 이같은 국가화합회의 개최계획을 환영했습니다.
유럽연합 (EU)이 아프리카 연합의 소말리아 주둔 평화유지군 병력을 지원하기 위해 1천9백만달러의 자금을 지원할 계획인 가운데 소말리아의 계획은 자금제공을 위한 EU의 조건을 만족시키는 것이라고 미셸 대표는 말했습니다.
AU는 8천명의 평화유지 병력을 소말리아에 주둔시키는 안을 승인했으나 아직까지 아프리카 국가들이 약속한 병력지원 규모는 이의 절반에도 미치지 못합니다.

Somalia's president has agreed to hold a national reconciliation conference to try to end 16 years of conflict among rival clans.
Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf made the announcement today (Tuesday) at the African Union summit in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa. He says the conference will bring together leaders of Somalia's clans, and religious and political groups.
European Union aid chief Louis Michel welcomed the conference plan, saying it satisfies EU conditions for releasing 19-million dollars to fund an African Union peacekeeping force for Somalia.
The A.U. has approved an eight-thousand strong deployment, but African nations have so far only pledged half the number of required troops. A.U. officials were to discuss ways of making up the shortfall at today's meetings.
A.U. leaders say the peacekeepers are needed to prevent Somalia from slipping back into civil war as Ethiopian troops withdraw over the coming weeks.
