World political and business leaders are discussing the problem of climate change at the start of the annual World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
Participants in the opening sessions of the forum today (Wednesday) welcomed U.S. President George Bush's acknowledgment of what he called the serious challenge of global climate change in his State of the Union speech Tuesday.
About 24-hundred people, including 24 heads of state, are attending the event at the Swiss ski resort of Davos.
Participants are slated to discuss ways for their governments and businesses to address the problem of global climate change.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel is set to deliver the keynote speech at the meeting later today.
Several sessions at this year's meeting will be devoted to the Middle East, with a strong focus on Iraq. Top leaders from Iraq's Shi'ite, Sunni and Kurdish factions have been invited.
