이라크 수도, 바그다드 시내 대학 인근에서 16일, 두 건의 차량폭탄 공격이 벌어져 적어도 60명이 살해되고 100 여 명이 부상하는 몇 주일만에 또 한 차례 대규모 유혈폭력 사태가 발생했습니다.
이날 차량폭탄 공격은 바그다드 시내 무스탄시리야 대학에서 하루 수업이 끝나 학생들이 교정을 떠나는 시간에 벌어졌습니다.
이날 바그다드 시내와 주변 등 수니파 회교도 사원 근처에서 연이은 폭탄공격을 포함한 폭력사태로 적어도 스물 아홉 명이 살해됐습니다. 이보다 하루 앞서 15일, 이라크 북부지역에서 미군 네 명이 도로변 폭탄공격으로 살해됐다고 미군 당국이 밝혔습니다.
한편, 유엔의 새로운 보고서는 지난 해 이라크 전역에 걸친 폭력사태로 이라크 민간인 3만4천 여 명이 희생됐다고 밝혔습니다.
유엔의 지안니 마가제니 특사눈 16일, 바그다드에서 기자회견을 갖고 2006년 한 해동안의 이라크 민간인 희생자수를 이같이 발표하고 부상자도 3만6천 여명에 달했다고 말했습니다.

A double car bomb attack near a university in Baghdad has killed at least 60 people and wounded more than 100 others -- on one of the bloodiest days in Iraq in weeks.
The bombs exploded today (Tuesday) as students were leaving the (Mustansiriya) university at the end of the school day.
At least 29 people were killed in other attacks in and around Baghdad, including back-to-back bombings near a Sunni mosque.
The U.S. military says a roadside bombing killed four American soldiers Monday in northern Iraq.
A new United Nations report says more than 34-thousand Iraqi civilians were killed in violence across the country last year. At a news conference in Baghdad today (Tuesday), top U.N. official Gianni Magazzeni said that more than 36-thousand civilians were wounded in 2006.
The figures are much higher than Iraqi government estimates.
