워싱턴 미 국무부의 톰 케이시 대변인은 뉴스 브리핑에서 미국 수석대표 크리스토퍼 힐 동아시아태평양 담당 차관보와 북한 외무성의 김계관 부상이 6자회담의 다음 단계 회의가 생산적일 수 있는 기초작업 마련을 위한 논의를 가졌다고 밝혔습니다.
힐 차관보는 한 강연회에서 연설하기 위해 베를린을 방문중이며 힐 차관보와 김계관 부상간의 회담에 관해서는 공식발표되지 않았습니다.
힐 차관보는 이번 주, 19일, 서울 방문에 이어 베이징과 도쿄를 잇달아 방문할 예정입니다.
6자회담은 지난 달, 베이징에서 재개됐으나 회의 속개일정 등에 관한 합의도 없이 끝났습니다.

The chief U.S. negotiator in the North Korean nuclear talks met in Berlin today (Tuesday) with his North Korean counterpart to discuss ways the two sides could prepare for the next round of six-party talks.
In Washington, a State Department spokesman (Tom Casey) told reporters that Christopher Hill and Kim Kye-gwan were trying "to set the groundwork" for the next round of talks to ensure they would be "productive."
North Korea returned to the six-party talks (with China, the United States, South Korea, Japan and Russia) last month. But the negotiations ended with no agreement on Pyongyang's nuclear weapons and no date for further talks.
Hill is currently in Germany to deliver a speech, and his meeting with Kim was not announced.
The U.S. envoy is scheduled to travel to Asia this week with stops in Seoul (on Friday), Beijing (on Saturday) and Tokyo (on Sunday).
