북핵 6자회담의 미국 측 수석대표가 다음 주 동아시아를 방문할 예정입니다.
국무부는 크리스토퍼 힐 동아시아 태평양 담당 차관보가 오는 19일부터 한국과 일본, 중국을 방문할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
국무부의 탐 케이시 대변인은 힐 차관보의 방문 목적은 6자회담 주요 참가국들과 차기 회담의 진전 방안을 협의하는 것이라고 말했습니다.
케이시 대변인은 6자회담 재개 시기에 관해 아무런 정보도 없다고 말하고, 미국은 가능한 한 빨리 회담이 재개되기를 바라지만, 단지 진전이 이뤄질 것이라고 믿을 만한 이유가 있을 때만 회담이 재개될 수 있을 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
또한 케이시 대변인은 힐 차관보가 이번 동아시아 순방중에 북한 당국자들을 만날 계획은 없다고 말했습니다.

The chief U.S. negotiator in the North Korean nuclear talks will travel to Asia next week to meet with key allies.
The State Department says Christopher Hill will visit South Korea, Japan and China beginning next Friday.
State Department spokesman Tom Casey says the purpose of the trip is for Hill to consult with key partners in the region to see how they can achieve progress in the next round of talks with North Korea.
Casey said he had no information on when the six party talks would continue. He said the United States would like the talks to take place as soon as possible, but only if there is reason to believe there can be progress.
The spokesman said there are no plans for Hill to meet with North Korean officials during his visit.
