북한과 미국은 미국의 대북 제재문제에 관한 회담을 곧 속개할 것으로 예상된다고 한국의 송민순 외교통상부 장관이 말했습니다.
송 장관은 미국과 북한간 제재 문제 회담의 일정이 결정되지는 않았지만 양측이 1월22월부터 시작되는 주중에 회담을 갖는다는 잠정적 합의에 도달한 것으로 안다고 말했습니다.
송 장관은 워싱턴을 방문한 뒤 7일 귀국하면서 이같이 말했습니다.
지난 달에 재개됐던 북한의 핵무기 개발 계획에 관한 6자 회담 협상은 결렬됐습니다. 당시 한국의 노무현 대통령은 보좌관들에게 6자 회담이 진전을 이루지 못하고 있는 것은 일부 북한에 대한 미국의 금융제재 탓이라고 말했습니다.
미국은 북한이 위폐제조와 돈세탁을 한 혐의로 지난 2005년 북한에 대해 금융제재 조치를 내렸습니다.

South Korea's foreign minister has said he expects North Korea and the United States to soon resume talks on U.S. sanctions.
Song Min-Soon said a date has not been set, but that he believes the two parties have tentatively agreed to meet in the week beginning January 22nd.
He made the remarks upon returning to Seoul on Sunday after a diplomatic trip to Washington.
Six-party negotiations on North Korea's nuclear program collapsed late last month.
At the time, South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun told advisors the U.S. financial sanctions against North Korea were partly to blame for the lack of progress in the talks.
The U.S. imposed the sanctions in 2005 in response to North Korea's alleged counterfeiting and money laundering.
