지난해 11월에 발생한 이라크의 하디타 양민 학살 사건과 관련해 당시 미군이 비무장한 주민 5명을 택시에서 내리게 한 뒤 사살했다는 목격자의 증언이 나왔다고 미국 유력지 워싱턴포스트가 보도했습니다.
이 신문은 6일 하디타 양민 학살 사건과 관련한 미군 조사 보고서의 일부분을 인용하면서 당시 해병대 차량에 타고 있던 한 이라크 병사가 미 해병대의 양민 학살 장면을 목격했다고 전했습니다.
이라크 병사는 미 해병대원들이 도로에 설치된 폭탄 폭발로 동료 병사 한 명이 사망하자 바로 양민들을 살해하기 시작했다고 미군 조사관들에게 말했습니다.
워싱턴포스트는 일부 목격자들은 미 해병대원들이 택시 안에 있던 양민 5명을 차에서 내리게 한 후 길가에 줄을 서게 한 뒤 해병대 분대장이 한 명씩 사살했다고 증언했다고 전했습니다.
당시 이 사살을 시작으로 하디타에서 이라크 양민 24명이 살해됐으며 이 가운데 많은 희생자가 여성과 어린이들이었습니다.
미군은 지난달 민간인 학살과 관련해 이 사건에 개입한 해병대 분대장 등 4명의 해병대원을 살인죄로 기소했습니다.

A published report on the killing of Iraqi civilians by U.S. Marines in Haditha says witnesses saw the troops pull five unarmed Iraqis from a passing taxi and shoot them dead.
A story in "The Washington Post" today (Saturday) includes part of a U.S military (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) investigation report quoting an Iraqi soldier who was in the Marine convoy during the November, 2005 incident.
He told investigators the Marines began killing civilians shortly after a roadside bomb killed one of their comrades.
The newspaper reports that some witnesses say the Marine squad leader (Staff Sergeant Frank Wuterich) shot the five men one-by-one after Marines ordered them out of the taxi and lined them up on the side of the road.
The shootings were the first of violent reactions by Marines that day that left 24 Iraqi civilians dead in Haditha. Many of those killed were women and children.
The squad leader and three other Marines were charged with murder last month in connection with the civilian deaths.
