반기문 신임 유엔 사무총장은 5일 사무부총장에 탄자니아의 아샤 로스 미기로 (Asha Rose Migiro) 여성 외무장관을 임명했습니다. 반 총장은 이날 이같은 결정을 발표하면서 미기로 부총장은 “개발도상국가들의 대의를 옹호해온 매우 존경받는 지도자”라고 높이 평가했습니다.
그는 또 미기로 부총장에게 유엔 사무국의 관리와 행정 뿐아니라 사회.경제적 그리고 개발관련 현안들에 대한 업무 대부분을 위임할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
반 총장은 사무부총장직에 사하라 사막 이남 출신 여성을 기용할것으로 예상돼왔습니다. 한국 외무장관 출신인 반 유엔 사무총장은 새해 첫날 공식 임기를 시작했습니다.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has named Tanzania's foreign minister as his deputy, keeping his promise to have a woman fill the post.
In a statement announcing the decision today (Friday), Mr. Ban called Asha-Rose Migiro a "highly respected leader who has championed the cause of developing countries." He said he intends to delegate to her much of the management and administrative work of his office, as well as socio-economic affairs and development issues.
The U.N. chief said a clear line of authority will help the Secretariat work more effectively and efficiently.
There had been widespread speculation that Mr. Ban would name a woman from sub-Saharan Africa to the post. Mr. Ban, the former foreign minister of South Korea, took over as U.N. secretary-general on Monday.
