Iraqi officials say a car bomb in the southern city of Kufa has killed 31 people and wounded at least 58 others.
The explosion occurred today (Saturday) in a crowded fish market as people shopped ahead of the the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday. Women and children are reported among the dead.
Kufa is one of the holiest cities in Iraq for the country's majority Shi'ite Muslims.
The car bombing happened just hours after former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was executed in Baghdad, but there is no indication it is related to his death.
U.S military officials today (Saturday) also announced the death of an American soldier killed Friday while patrolling a neighborhood in northwestern Baghdad.
