올해말 이임하는 코피 아난 유엔 사무총장은 수단 다르푸르 지방에 유엔군과 아프리카 연합군이 함께 주둔하는 방안을 수단정부가 받아들일 것으로 낙관한다고 말했습니다.
아난 사무총장은 22일 유엔 안전보장이사회 연설에서 수단정부가 23일에 이같은 안을 승인할 지 모른다고 수단 담당 유엔 특사가 알려왔다고 밝혔습니다.
아난 사무총장은 오므라 알-바쉬르 수단 대통령이 전면적인 정전을 승인하고 다르푸르 지방에서 투쟁하고있는 모든 세력이 정치과정에 참여하도록 하는 방안을 받아들이길 희망한다고 말했습니다.
바쉬르 수단 대통령은 유엔 평화유지군 만이 다르푸르 지방에 주둔하는 안을 거부한 바 있습니다.
유엔 관리들은 타협안으로 유엔군과 아프리카 연합군이 함께 주둔하는 방안을 바쉬르 대통령에게 제시하고 이를 받아들이도록 설득해 왔습니다.

Outgoing U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan says he is optimistic that Sudan will agree to a joint U.N.-African Union peacekeeping force in Darfur.
Addressing the Security Council Friday, Mr. Annan said reports from his special envoy to Sudan encourage him to think Khartoum may approve the proposed force on Saturday.
He said he also is hopeful that Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, will approve a full ceasefire and a renewed effort to bring all Darfur rebel groups into the political process.
Mr. Bashir has rejected a proposal for a peacekeeping force consisting entirely of U.N. troops. U.N. officials have been trying to persuade the Sudanese president to agree to the joint force as a compromise.
