베이징에서 열리고 있는 6자회담 사흘째를 맞아 미국과 북한 수석대표들이 두번째 양자 접촉을 가졌습니다.
미국측 수석대표인 크리스토퍼 힐 국무부 동아시아태평양 담당 차관보는 20일 북한측 수석대표인 김계관 북한 외무성 부상과 회동한뒤 대화가 유익했다고 말했습니다. 힐 차관보는 그러나 이번 회담에서 진전이 이뤄질지 혹은 회담이 언제 마무리될지 분명치 않다며 신중한 자세를 보였습니다.
미국은 지난해 경제원조와 안전 보장에 대한 대가로 북한이 핵포기에 합의한 9.19 공동성명을 이행할것을 북한 정부에 촉구하고 있습니다. 힐 차관보는 국제사회 어떤 나라도 북한을 핵보유국으로 인정하지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.
이와는 별도로 미국 재무부의 다니엘 글레이져 부차관보와 북한 조선무역은행 오광철 총재가 20일 중국주재 북한대사관에서 만나 대북한 금융제재와 관련한 두번째 실무 논의를 가졌습니다.

U.S. nuclear envoy Christopher Hill is to have a second meeting with his North Korean counterpart in Beijing today (Wednesday) on the sidelines of six-party talks on Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program.
Hill says he had "good discussions" with Kim Kye Gwan on Tuesday. But, the U.S. diplomat was cautious about the prospects for the talks, saying it is not clear where they are leading or how long they will last.
Washington is calling on Pyongyang to implement a September 2005 agreement to abandon nuclear weapons in return for aid and security guarantees. Hill says no country will tolerate a nuclear-armed North Korea.
U.S. and North Korean finance officials also met for a second time in Beijing today to discuss U.S. sanctions against companies accused of illicit dealings with Pyongyang.
U.S. Treasury official Daniel Glaser says resolving the sanctions dispute is likely to be a long-term process.
