Palestinian witnesses say Hamas and Fatah gunmen have exchanged fire in the West Bank city of Ramallah, a day after an attack against the Palestinian prime minister's entourage in Gaza.
There have been no reports of injuries in the violence, which follows accusations from the Hamas faction that gunmen affiliated with its rival Fatah party tried to assassinate Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.
A Hamas spokesman accused a top Fatah official (Mohammed Dahlan) of planning and organizing an attempted assassination of the prime minister.
Fatah forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas have denied involvement in Thursday's shooting incident with Mr. Haniyeh's entourage near the Egyptian border crossing in the Gaza Strip.
Gunfire killed the prime minister's bodyguard and wounded at least 20 other people.
President Abbas later expressed regret for the incident.
