목격자들에 따르면 수단인민해방군(SPLA)에 소속됐던 군인 수백명이 거리를 따라 행진하며 공중을 향해 총을 발사했습니다. 군인들은 지난 수년간 임금을 받지 못했다고 항의하고 있습니다.
한편 지역 언론 보도에 따르면 수단인민해방군은 시위를 종결시키기 위한 협상에 돌입했습니다.
수단인민해방군은 지난 21년간 수단 정부군에 맞서 싸우다가, 지난해 정부와 평화협정을 체결했습니다. 협정의 결과로 수단 남부에 주바를 수도로하는 반자치 정부도 세워졌습니다.
이들은 이후 수단정부가 협정에 준한 예산을 할당하지 않고 있다고 불평해왔습니다.

Heavy gunfire broke out in the southern Sudanese city of Juba today (Friday), as soldiers fired in the air to protest unpaid wages.
Witnesses say several hundred former rebels from the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) marched through the town, firing as they went.
Some soldiers said they have not been paid properly for years, including during the time when they were fighting Sudanese government troops in the countryside.
Reports from the city say talks are underway to end the protest.
The S.P.L.A. ended its 21-year fight against the government last year, when it signed a peace deal.
The deal set up a semi-autonomous government for southern Sudan, with Juba as its capital.
The southern Sudanese government has since complained of delays in getting its share of revenue from the administration in Khartoum, as required in the peace deal.
