미국의 두 일간지는 미군 최고 지휘관들이 이라크내 미군의 임무가 저항세력과의 전투에서 이라크군과 경찰 병력을 자문하는 방향으로 바뀌길 원하고 있다고 보도했습니다.
미 유력지인 ‘워싱턴 포스트’와 ‘뉴욕 타임스’는 이라크 주둔 미군 최고 사령관인 죠지 케이시 육군 대장이 바그다드와 다른 이라크 도시의 미군을 재배치하는 안을 담은 계획을 옹호하고 있다고 전했습니다.

President Bush has wrapped up a series of meetings this week aimed at finding what he says will be a new way forward in Iraq.
After talks with top military officials at the Pentagon Wednesday, Mr. Bush said he will not be "rushed" into announcing a decision.
He said he wants the incoming defense secretary, Robert Gates, to have time to evaluate the situation and make recommendations. Two U.S. newspapers are reporting that military leaders want to change the role of U.S. troops in Iraq from combating insurgents to advising Iraqi military and police units.
"The Washington Post" and "The New York Times" say Army General George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, is advocating a plan that includes redeploying American forces out of Baghdad and other Iraqi cities.
