미국의 9일자 [워싱턴 포스트] 신문은 미국의 6자회담 수석대표인 크리스토퍼 힐 국무부 동아시아 태평양 담당 차관보가 조만간 공식 발표할 것이라고 보도했습니다.
크리스토퍼 힐 차관보는 워싱턴 포스트 신문과의 회견에서 구체적인 내용을 제공하지 않았지만, 곧 회담이 재개될 것이라고 강조했습니다.
이에 대한 공식적인 확인은 아직 나오지 않고 있습니다. 그러나 미국의 한 고위 외교관은 8일, 아직 완전히 합의된 것은 아니지만, 앞으로 10일 이내에 6자회담이 재개될 가능성이 있다고 기자들에게 말했습니다.
아시아에서 나온 뉴스보도들도 6자회담이 오는 12월 16일에 재개될 수 있을 것이라고 말했습니다.
아베 신조 일본 총리는 9일, 마닐라에서 기자들에게 앞으로 6자회담이 재개되면 자신은 구체적인 성과를 얻어내기 위해 미국 등 여러 관계당사국들과 긴밀히 협력할 것이라고 말했습니다.
북한은 미국이 북한의 국제 금융을 동결한데 항의하며 지난 1년여 이상 6자회담에 불참해 왔습니다. 그러나 북한은 지하 핵실험을 실시한지 몇주일 후인 지난 10월 말에 6자회담에 복귀할 준비가 돼 있다고 발표한 바 있습니다.

Published reports indicate the stalled six-nation talks on North Korea's nuclear program could begin next Saturday in Beijing.
Today's (Saturday's) edition of the the Washington Post newspaper says the top U.S. envoy to the talks, Christopher Hill, will make a formal announcement soon. Hill told the Post in an interview that - in his words - "We're going back." But he not provide details.
There has been no official confirmation of the report. However, on Friday, a senior U.S. diplomat told reporters there is potential for resuming the talks within 10 days, although he said the arrangements are not yet complete.
News reports in Asia also say the nuclear talks could resume December 16th. Speaking to reporters in Manilla today, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said if they do resume, he will work with the U.S. and other parties to seek concrete results.
