조지 부시 미국 대통령은 30일 누리 알 말리키 이라크 총리를 강력한 지도자로 묘사하고 말리키 총리 정부의 성공이 이라크 장래에 결정적이라고 말했습니다.
부시 대통령은 이날 요르단 암만에서 말리키 총리와 회담을 가진뒤 이같이 말하고 미군은 임무를 완수하고 이라크 정부가 미군을 원하는 한 이라크에 계속 남아있을 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
부시 대통령은 또 일부에서 제안한 이라크 국토 분할안은 종파간 폭력사태를 끝내지 못한 채 오히려 폭력을 증가시킬 것이라는데 말리키 총리와 의견을 같이했다고 말했습니다.
두 정상은 이날 회담에서 이라크내 치안권을 미군주도의 연합군으로 부터 이라크군에게 신속히 이양하는 방안을 논의했다고 말했습니다.
한편 말리키 총리는 이란과 시리아 같은 주변국들이 이라크 안정에 기여할 것이라고 말하고 자신은 이라크의 거국 정부와 협력할 필요가 있다고 믿는 모든 당사측, 특히 이웃나라들과 함께 일할 준비가 돼있다고 덧붙였습니다.

President Bush has praised Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as a "strong leader" and said the success of his government is critical to Iraq's future.
Speaking after talks with Mr. Maliki in Amman, Jordan (today/Thursday), Mr. Bush said U.S. forces will remain in Iraq "until the job is complete" and as long as the government wants them there.
Mr. Bush said he agreed with Mr. Maliki that any partition of the country will not end sectarian violence -- as some have suggested -- but will only increase it.
Both leaders said they discussed ways to accelerate the handover of security responsibilities from the U.S. - led coalition to Iraqi forces.
For his part, Mr. Maliki indicated that countries like Iran and Syria might play a role in stabilizing Iraq. He said he is ready to work with "everybody" who believes in the need to cooperate with Iraq's national unity government, especially the neighbors.
