고인의 부친인 아민 게마일 전 레바논 대통령은 방탄유리 뒤에서 군중들에게 새로운 독립혁명을 일으키고 친 시리아계인 에밀 라후드 레바논 대통령을 교체하기 위한 선거를 치뤄야한다고 촉구했습니다.
베이루트의 성 조지 성당에서 거행된 게마일 장관의 장례식은 나스랄라 스페이트 대주교가 집행했고, 필리페 두스트-블라지 프랑스 외무장관과 아므르 무사 아랍연맹 사무총장이 참석했습니다. 34세 게마일 장관의 주검은 고향인 베이루트 동부 비크파야 마을로 운구돼 안장됐습니다.

Hundreds of thousands of mourners have crowded Beirut's city center for the funeral for slain anti-Syrian politician Pierre Gemayel.
Mourners packed Martyrs' Square today (Thursday), waving Lebanese flags and holding pictures of the late industry minister.
Gemayel's father, Amin, a former president of Lebanon, addressed the crowd from behind bullet-proof glass. He called for the start of a new independence revolution and for elections to replace pro-Syrian President Emile Lahoud.
Lebanese Patriarch of the Maronite (Christian) Church, Cardinal Nasrallah Sfeir, led a funeral service at St. George's Cathedral. Dignitaries in attendance included French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.
The coffin carrying the body of the popular 34-year-old Christian politician was then being taken back to his native town of Bikfaya, in the mountains east of Beirut.
Gemayel was gunned down inside his car Tuesday near Beirut. His allies blamed the attack on Syria, which has denied any involvement.
