Thousands of people have celebrated in the streets of Nepal for a peace deal signed Tuesday by the government and Maoist rebels.
The country's leaders proclaimed today (Wednesday) to be a public holiday in reaction to the deal that ends a decade-long civil war that killed more than 13-thousand people.
Even Nepal's King Gyanendra issued a statement supporting the deal, although it leaves the monarchy in limbo.
World leaders, including those of India, Britain, the United States and the United Nations, have welcomed the pact.
Under the pact, the Maoists will restrict their fighters to U.N. supervised camps and store their weapons in supervised containers. This will continue until elections are held for an assembly that will draft a new constitution and decide the future of the monarchy.
