(Eng)

Many Americans are on the roads or at airports today (Wednesday), traveling to be with loved ones for Thursday's Thanksgiving holiday.

Experts say because gas prices have dropped since the summer travel season, more people are expected to travel this Thanksgiving by car on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

The American Automobile Association estimates that more than 38 million Americans will travel 80 kilometers or more for the holiday. Nearly 32 million of those are expected to go by car. Nearly five million are expected to fly, with the rest of the travelers taking trains, buses, or other modes of transportation. Stormy conditions are expected to slow both road and air travel in the mid-Atlantic region.

President Bush has carried out a Thanksgiving holiday ritual by pardoning two turkeys that might otherwise become part of the traditional Thanksgiving feast on Thursday.

In a Rose Garden ceremony outside the White House today (Wednesday), Mr. Bush gave a presidential pardon to the birds, named "Flyer" and "Fryer" by Americans who participated in an internet poll. The birds will now be retired to Disneyland, in California. On Thursday they will serve as honorary Grand Marshals for Disneyland's Thanksgiving Day parade.
