이라크 정부 관리들은 21일 왈리드 무알렘 시리아 외무장관이 바그다드를 방문해 외교관계를 정상화하기로 합의했다고 밝혔습니다.
이라크 관리들은 또한 잘랄 탈라바니 이라크 대통령이 오는 25일 이란의 수도 테헤란을 방문해 마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 이란 대통령과 회담할 예정이라고 말했습니다.
그러나 시리아의 바샤르 알-아사드 대통령이 이번 회담에 동참할 것이라는 보도는 사실이 아니라고 이라크 관리들은 말했습니다.
한편 21일 미군과 이라크 군이 바그다드의 사드르 시 지역을 급습하는 과정에서 세 명이 숨졌다고 이라크 관리들이 말했습니다.

Syria and Iraq have restored diplomatic relations after a nearly quarter-century break.
Iraqi officials say ties were normalized today (Tuesday) during Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem's visit to Baghdad.
A U.S. National Security Council spokesman (Gordan Johndroe) called on Syria to show it is committed to a constructive role and stop the flow of foreign fighters into Iraq. He added that the United States has always encouraged Iraq's neighbors to support the country.
In other developments, Iraqi officials say President Jalal Talabani will meet in Tehran Saturday with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Officials denied reports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would join the talks.
Meanwhile, Iraqi officials say three people were killed in a U.S.-Iraqi raid in Baghdad's Sadr City neighborhood today (Tuesday). The U.S. military says seven suspects were captured, including an individual believed to have information about an American soldier abducted in October.
