중국의 후진타오 국가주석이 20일 나흘간의 인도 방문을 시작한 가운데, 이날 인도에 살고 있는 티벳인 수 백 명이 시위를 벌였습니다.
티벳의 독립을 위한 정치 조직인 [티벳 청년 의회]는 인도 정부에게 후 주석과 티벳 문제에 관한 회담을 개최하라고 촉구했지만, 인도 정부는 이를 거부하고 있습니다.
인도 당국자들은 티벳인들에게 후 주석의 방문 기간 중 뉴 델리 도심을 떠나라고 요구했고, 학생들에게는 기숙사 안에 머물라고 말했습니다. 당국자들은 그같은 지시에 따르지 않는 자들에 대해서는 적절한 행동을 취할 것이라고 다짐했습니다.
인도 북부 다람살라에 있는 티벳 망명의회는 중국 지도자에게 망명한 티벳의 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마를 만나 티벳의 미래에 관해 논의하라고 촉구했습니다.

Hundreds of Tibetans living in India are holding demonstrations during the four-day visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao that begins today (Monday).
The Tibet Youth Congress has urged India to hold talks with Mr. Hu on Tibet's issues, but New Delhi has declined.
Indian authorities have asked Tibetans to leave the center of the capital, and told students to stay inside their dormitories during Mr. Hu's visit. Authorities vowed to take appropriate action against those who disobey the order.
In the northern Indian town of Dharamsala, Tibet's parliament-in-exile called on the Chinese leader to meet with Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, to discuss the future of Tibet.
