한국의 노무현 대통령은 19일 베트남의 하노이에서 열린 에이펙 정상회의를 마치고 캄보디아의 수도 프놈펜에 도착했습니다.
지난 1997년 한국과 캄보디아가 외교관계를 정상화한 이후 한국 대통령이 캄보디아를 방문한 것은 이번이 처음입니다.
노무현 대통령은 나흘동안의 이번 캄보디아 방문기간 동안 양국간 무역관계를 확대하는 주력할 예정입니다.
한국정부는 지난 해 캄보디아와의 교역이 1억5천만 달러에 이르렀다고 밝혔습니다. 한국은 섬유와 중고차 의료품 등 1억4천4백만 달러 상당을 캄보디아에 수출했으며 고무와 수산물 등 6백만 달러 상당을 캄보디아에서 수입했습니다.
양국은 지난 1970년에 외교관계를 수립했으나 5년 뒤 공산세력인 크메르 루즈가 캄보디아에 집권하면서 외교관계가 단절됐었습니다.

South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun is in Cambodia for the first high-level state visit since the countries restored diplomatic relations in 1997.
President Roh arrived in the capital, Phnom Penh, today (Sunday) from Vietnam, where he was attending a Pacific Rim economic forum.
The president's four-day visit aims to bolster trade ties between the two countries.
The South Korean government says two-way trade reached 150 million dollars last year. South Korea exported about 144 million dollars in textiles, used cars and medical products to Cambodia. In turn, the country imported about six million dollars worth of Cambodian goods, including rubber and fishery products.
The countries established ties in 1970. Relations were cut five years later, after the communist Khmer Rouge took power.
