미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관은 아시아 태평양 국가들이 경제적 번영을 계속 누리길 바란다면 반드시 테러나 다른 안보위협에 맞서야 한다고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 16일 베트남의 수도 하노이에서 열린 아시아 태평양 경제협력체-에이펙 외무장관 회의에서 이같이 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 아시아 태평양 지역의 번영은 테러나 대량살상 무기의 확산, 전염병의 확산 등에 맞서는 것과 밀접하게 관련돼 있다고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 에이펙 회원국 외무장관들에게 지역안보가 근본적으로 흔들리면 무역이나 경제성장에 심각한 영향을 미칠 것이라고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 또한 에이펙 회원국들에게 무기 밀매업자들이 금융제도를 악용하는 것을 방지해야 한다고 촉구했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says Asia Pacific nations must confront terrorism and other security threats if they want to maintain economic prosperity.
Rice discussed the issue today (Thursday) with regional foreign ministers at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Vietnam's capital, Hanoi.
She says the prosperity of the region is closely tied to combating threats such as terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and the spread of pandemic disease.
Secretary Rice warned her colleagues that if regional security is fundamentally compromised, there would be serious consequences for trade and economic growth.
She also urged APEC members to take "all necessary action" to prevent their financial systems being abused by weapons proliferators.
Washington imposed financial sanctions on North Korea last year to make it harder for Pyongyang develop and sell missile technology.
