프랑스는 9일 첫 대륙간 신형 탄도 미사일 M-51을 잠수함에서 성공적으로 시험 발사했습니다. 프랑스 국방부 관리들은 비무장 M-51형 탄도미사일이 프랑스 남서부 도시 보르도 인근에 위치한 비스카로스의 한 발사대에서 서쪽으로 대서양 상공을 향해 시험 발사됐다고 밝혔습니다.

사정거리 8천여 킬로미터 M-51형 탄도미사일은 유럽 컨소시엄 업체 유럽항공방위우주, 약칭 EADS가 제작한 것으로 핵탄두 6개를 탑재하고 순항할 수 있습니다. M-51형은 현재 프랑스 잠수함들에 배치돼 있는M-45형 탄도 미사일을 대체할 예정입니다.

France has successfully carried out its first test of its new M-51 submarine-based intercontinental ballistic missile. French defense officials say the unarmed missile, launched from a test center at Biscarosse, near the southwestern city of Bordeaux, flew westwards over the Atlantic Ocean.
Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie expressed satisfaction with the test, which she called an important step in the modernization of her country's deterrent force.
The missile, manufactured by the European consortium EADS, has a range of about eight-thousand kilometers and will carry six warheads. It is to replace France's current M-45 submarine launched missiles.
