이라크인들은 럼스펠드 장관의 사임소식에 일부 만족을 나타냈습니다. 많은 이라크인들은 럼스펠드 장관의 정책이 실패함에 따라 이라크에서 종파간 폭력사태가 증가하고있다고 비판하고 있습니다.
많은 바그다드 주민들은 럼스펠드 장관의 후임자로 지명된 로버트 게이츠 전 중앙정보국장이 취임하면 미국정부의 이라크 정책에 변화가 있을 것으로 기대한다고 말했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is set to deliver a speech today (Thursday), one day after President Bush said he has decided it is time for new leadership at the Pentagon.
Rumsfeld's speech in (the midwestern U.S. state of) Kansas is expected to focus on the war on terror. The defense secretary, who has been highly criticized for his handling of the war in Iraq, is stepping down in the wake of the Republican Party's massive defeat in Tuesday's congressional elections.
Rumsfeld's resignation was met with some satisfaction by Iraqis. Many of them blame him for policy failures that have led to the increasing level of sectarian violence in the country. Many in Baghdad said they expect changes in U.S. policy in Iraq under Rumsfeld's expected replacement, former Central Intelligence Agency director Robert Casey.
