대량파괴 무기가 테러리스트 단체들의 수중에 들어가는 위협은 대단히 현실적인 것이라고 미국의 핵에너지 전문 외교관이 경고했습니다.
미국의 국제원자력기구,I-A-E-A 주재 그레고리 슐트 대사는 오스트리아 수도, 빈에서 열린 유럽안보협력기구,O-S-C-E 특별총회의에 참석해 이같이 경고했습니다.
슐트 대사는 I-A-E-A가 핵무기급 물질들이 56개 O-S-C-E 회원국 역내에서 밀거래된 18건의 기록을 갖고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 슐트 대사는 북한과 이란에서 진행되고 있는 핵개발 문제는 핵물질 밀거래에 관한 경각심을 높여주는 것일 뿐이라고 말했습니다.

A U.S. diplomat specializing in atomic energy issues says the threat of weapons of mass destruction in the hands of terrorist groups is very real.
Gregory Schulte, the chief U.S. delegate to the International Atomic Energy Agency, made his comments in Vienna to a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He said the I.A.E.A. recorded 18 incidents of smuggling nuclear weapons-grade material in the territories of the 56 O.S.C.E. countries between 1993 and 2004.
The organization met in special session today (Wednesday) to discuss how best to improve enforcement of a 2004 United Nations resolution aimed at keeping such weapons off the black market and out of the hands of terrorists.
He said recent nuclear developments in Iran and North Korea only heighten nuclear trafficking concerns.
