U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton has criticized Russia's proposed changes to a draft U.N. resolution on Iran's nuclear program.
Mr. Bolton told reporters in New York today (Tuesday) that the Russian proposals conflicted with commitments made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in July.
Mr. Bolton spoke as Britain, France and Germany formally presented their draft resolution to the U.N. Security Council.
The resolution would impose sanctions on Iran for failing to suspend uranium enrichment by August 31st as demanded by the Security Council.
Diplomats say Russia is seeking to soften the resolution.
The United States and its European allies accuse Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons. Iran says its uranium enrichment activities are part of a peaceful program to develop nuclear energy.
