줄기 세포 연구 조작과 관련해 서울대학교에서 파면된 한국의 과학자 황우석 박사가 서울대를 상대로 파면 처분 취소 청구 소송을 제기했습니다.
황 박사는 서울대가 왜곡된 증거를 토대로 자신을 파면했다고 주장했습니다.
현재 황 박사는 사기와 횡령, 윤리 위반 등 배아 줄기세포 연구와 관련된 혐의로 재판을 받고 있습니다.
황 박사는 지난 2004년과 2005년에 복제와 줄기 세포 연구의 선구적인 성과로 묘사된 논문들을 발표한 후 국민적 영웅으로 떠 올랐습니다.
황박사의 주장이 만일 사실이라면, 그같은 연구 결과는 알치하이머와 파킨슨씨 병 같은 불치병이나 난치병의 치료로 이어질 수도 있을 것으로 여겨졌었습니다.
그러나, 조사 결과 황 박사 연구진이 연구 자료를 조작한 것으로 밝혀진 후, 서울대는 지난 3월에 황 박사를 파면했습니다.

The South Korean scientist who was fired from one of the country's top universities for falsifying stem cell research is suing to get his old job back.
Hwang Woo-suk says his dismissal from Seoul National University was based on distorted evidence.
He is currently on trial for charges related to his work on embryonic stem cells, including fraud, embezzlement and ethics violations.
Hwang had been hailed as a national hero after papers published in 2004 and 2005 described pioneering breakthroughs in cloning and stem cell research. If true, the results could possibly have led to cures or treatments for diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
The university fired him last March after an investigation said Hwang's team falsified data on parts of their work.
