리처드 펄 전 위원장은 신간으로 나올 잡지 ‘베니티 페어’와의 인터뷰에서 부시 진영에서 이탈한 몇 몇 신보수주의자들과 함께 이라크 전쟁의 혼란양상은 그 책임이 부시 행정부의 무능력에 있다고 비판했습니다.
리처드 펄 전 위원장은 부시 대통령이 올바른 결정을 내리지 못한 행정부의 궁극적인 책임을 자신이 짊어져야 할 것이라고 지적하고 자신은 이라크 전쟁이 지금 같은 상황에 이를 것으로 알았더라면 이라크 침공을 제안하지 않았을 것이라고 말했습니다. 국방부 방위정책자문위원회의 또 다른 위원이었던 케네스 아델만도 부시 행정부의 외교정책팀은 기능장애를 일으키고 있다고 비판했습니다.
한편, 미국의 독립적인 육해공군 해병 군사관계의 4개 신문들에 게제된 한 사설은 부시 대통령에게 도널드 럼스펠드 국방장관을 해임하라고 촉구했습니다.

Some leading U.S. conservatives who advocated the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 are now breaking ranks with the Bush administration over its handling of the post-invasion phase.
In an interview to be published in an upcoming issue of "Vanity Fair" magazine, several conservatives blame the current chaos in Iraq on the administration's incompetence.
Among them is Richard Perle, who chaired the influential Defense Advisory Board for the Pentagon at the time of the invasion. He says President Bush is ultimately responsible for his administration failing to make good decisions. Perle says he would not have advised an invasion had known how Iraq would turn out.
Another board member (Kenneth Adelman) describes the administration's foreign policy team as "dysfunctional."
Meanwhile, an editorial to appear (Monday) in four independent military newspapers (Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times and Marine Corps Times) calls on Mr. Bush to dismiss Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
