한 국제 언론인 보호 단체가 파키스탄 정부에 지난 주 수도 이슬라마바드에서 숨진 기자에 대한 수사를 펼칠 것을 촉구하고 있습니다.
55세의 말리크 모하메드 이스마일 (Malik Mohammed Ismail) 기자는 사기업인 파키스탄 프레스 인터내셔널 (Pakistan Press International)의 이슬라마바드 지국장이었습니다. 이스마일 국장의 사체는 지난 1일 그가 퇴근한지 하루 만에 발견됐습니다.
현지 경찰은 이스마일 국장은 머리에 둔기로 맞았고 그의 시신은 사무실 근처의 어느 외진 곳에서 버려진채 발견됐다고 말했습니다. 경찰은 이번 사건은 미리 계획된 것으로 보이지만 이스마일 국장이 살해된 원인은 아직 알려지지 않았다고 밝혔습니다.
뉴욕에 본부를 둔 ‘언론인 보호 위원회(Committee to Protect Journalists)’는 이스마엘 국장 살인 사건에 대한 즉각적이고 고도의 수사를 진행할 것을 촉구하는 성명을 발표했습니다.

An international media rights group is urging the Pakistani government to probe the death of a journalist who was killed in Islamabad this week.
Fifty-four year old Malik Mohammed Ismail was a bureau chief in Islamabad for the private news agency Pakistan Press International, and his body was found Wednesday, a day after he left his office.
Police say the veteran journalist was struck in the head and his body dumped in a deserted area near his office. Police said the killing seems to have been pre-meditated but it is not known why Ismail was attacked.
The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists has issued a statement demanding an "immediate and high-level" investigation into Ismail's killing.
