헝가리 부다페스트에서 구소련 반대 혁명50주년을 기념하는 반정부 시위가 벌어졌습니다. 헝가리 경찰은 최루탄과 물대포, 고무총탄을 사용해서 시위를 진압했습니다.
목격자들에 따르면 경찰은 이날 진압활동을 통해 수천명의 주민들이 추가로 반정부 시위에 참가하는 것을 막았습니다. 구급차 직원에 따르면 이 날 20-25명의 부상자도 발생했습니다
한편 시위현장에서 얼마 떨어지지 않은 곳에서는 20명의 유럽국가 총수를 포함한 전세계 지도자들이 모여 혁명 50주년을 기념하는 공식 행사를 개최했습니다.
행사는 헝가리 국가 게양으로 시작됐으며, 1956년 혁명 참가자들을 기리는 기념비 헌화로 이어졌습니다.
소련군에 대항해서 벌어진 혁명에서 최소한 2600명 이상이 숨졌습니다. 역사학자들은 혁명의 책임으로 200명 이상이 처형당한 것으로 추산하고 있습니다. 혁명 후에는 20만명이 서방 세계로 탈출했습니다.

Hungarian police used tear gas, water cannon and rubber bullets today (Monday) against hundreds of anti-government protesters in central Budapest, as the country marked the 50th anniversary of the 1956 uprising against Soviet rule.
Witnesses say riot police sought to prevent thousands of sympathizers from joining forces with the original protest group encamped near the parliament building. Ambulance workers reported 20 to 25 injuries.
Blocks away, dozens of world leaders, including 20 European heads of state, joined the official celebrations.
The official commemorations began with the raising of the national flag. Dignitaries then laid flowers at the foot of a monument honoring participants in the 1956 revolt.
At least 26-hundred Hungarians died battling Soviet troops, and historians say 200 others were executed for their roles in the uprising. More than 200-thousand others fled to the West.
