태국 남부의 이슬람 교도 거주지역에서 폭탄이 폭발해 군인 1명이 사망하고 최소한 11명이 부상했다고 태국 경찰이 밝혔습니다.
당국은 남부 나라치왓에서 무장세력들이 핸드폰을 이용해 쓰레기통에 숨겨놓은 5킬로그램의 폭탄을 터트렸다고 말했습니다. 이 폭발로 불교 승려 5명과 이들을 호위하던 병사 5명이 부상을 입었습니다. 또 부근을 지나던 행인들도 최소한 2명이 다쳤습니다.
병사 1명은 병원으로 옮기던 중 사망했으며 다른 희생자들은 중상이라고 경찰은 밝혔습니다.
태국 남부지방에서는 2004년 이래 폭력사태로 1천3백여명이 사망했습니다. 태국 정부는 이같은 폭력사태는 이슬람 분리주의자들과 조직범죄자들 및 부패한 지방관리들 때문이라고 밝히고 있습니다.

Police in Thailand say a bomb killed a soldier and wounded at least 11 people in Thailand's Muslim south today (Sunday).
Authorities say militants used a mobile phone to detonate a five-kilogram bomb hidden in a trash can in the city of Narathiwat. The explosion wounded five Buddhist monks who were receiving alms, and caused injuries to five soldiers guarding the monks. At least two passers-by were also hurt.
Police say one soldier died on the way to a hospital, and the other victims were seriously injured.
Since the start of 2004, more than 13-hundred people have died in violence in Thailand's south. Thailand's government says Islamic separatists, organized criminals and corrupt local officials are to blame.
