미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관은 김정일 국방 위원장이 추가 핵실험을 강행하지 않겠다고 말했다는 언론 보도에 대해 의구심을 제기했습니다.
일본과 한국 중국을 차례로 방문한 라이스 장관은 21일 마지막 방문지인 모스크바로 향하는 비행기안에서 기자들에게 이렇게 말했습니다. 라이스 장관은 현재 모스크바에 도착해 러시아 관리들과 유엔 안보리의 대북 제재안 이행 등에 관해 논의하고 있습니다.
앞서 언론들은 북한 지도자 김정일이 후진타오 중국 주석의 특사로 평양을 방문한 탕자쉬엔 국무위원에게 북한 정부는 추가 핵실험을 강행할 계획이 없다고 말했다고 보도했었습니다.
그러나 지난 20일 베이징에서 탕자쉬엔 국무위원을 만난 라이스 장관은 탕자쉬안 특사로부터 김정일이 핵실험을 하지 않겠다거나 북한이 핵실험에 대해 사과했다는 언급을 전혀 듯지 못했다고 말했습니다.
한편 러시아의 세르게이 라바로브 외교장관은 미국과 북한은 서로의 이견을 풀기위해 유연성을 보여야 한다고 촉구했습니다. 라바노프 장관은 한 언론과의 인터뷰에서 미북 두 나라는 6자 회담 재개를 위해 금융 제재 문제를 해결할 필요가 있다고 말했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has disputed media reports that say North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has pledged not to carry out further nuclear tests.
Rice made the comment to reporters on a flight to Moscow, where she met with top Russian officials today (Saturday).
Media reports from the region have said the North Korean leader spoke about the pledge to Chinese officials during a recent visit. He also was reported to have apologized for the October ninth nuclear test.
But Rice said she met Chinese officials in Beijing on Friday, and that there was no mention of Kim Jong Il's purported statements.
Meanwhile, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called on the United States and North Korea to show "flexibility" to resolve their differences. In an interview (with the Kuwaiti news agency), Lavrov said the two nations need to resolve their financial problems to help renew stalled six-party talks on the nuclear issue.
