More Iraqi Kurdish villagers have testified in the genocide trial against former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
Two Kurdish men told the court (today/Tuesday) how Iraqi forces rounded up thousands of Iraqi Kurds during a crackdown in 1988. They testified that they were sent to prison camps where they said scores of people died from torture and poor conditions.
Saddam Hussein criticized the witnesses. He said they were fueling ethnic divisions in the country.
Prosecutors say Iraqi forces killed more than 180-thousand Kurds in the Anfal campaign.
The former dictator and seven co-defendants are facing charges of crimes against humanity, including murder and torture.
Also today, the judge agreed to allow the return of defense attorneys who have boycotted proceedings because of alleged government interference. It was unclear when the lawyers planned to return to court.
The trial is scheduled to continue Wednesday.
