지난 2천 3년 3월 미국주도 연합군의 이라크 침공이래, 이라크에서 민간인 약 6십 오만 오천명이 사망한 것으로 추산된다고 연구가들이 말했습니다.
영국 의학 저널 란셋트지에 의해 발표된 이 같은 수치는 다른 조사기관들이 발표한 것보다 훨씬 더 높은 것입니다.
보고서는 이라크 침공이래, 사망률이 꾸준히 증가하고 있으며 특히 지난해 급증했다고 밝혔습니다.
보고서는 또, 총격으로 인한 사망이 여전히 사망원인으로 가장 많지만 차량 폭탄에 의한 사상자 역시 매년 증가하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
이 보고서에 따르면 , 이라크 전역에서 6십여만명,즉 하루 평균 약 500명이 폭력에 의해 살해됐고, 나머지는 질병이나 다른 원인에 의해 사망한 것으로 나타났습니다.

Researchers say an estimated 655-thousand civilians have died in Iraq since U.S.-led coalition forces invaded the country in March 2003.
The estimate, reported today (Wednesday) by the British medical journal the Lancet, is far higher than ones produced by other groups.
The study says there has been a steady increase in mortality in Iraq since the invasion, with a sharp rise in the last year. It says gunfire remains the most common cause of death, but fatalities from car bombings have also increased every year.
According to the study, more than 600-thousand people -- or about 500 per day across the country -- have been killed in violence. The rest died from diseases and other causes.
The study was conducted by a team of Iraqi physicians and US experts (at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health). The team interviewed residents of randomly selected households throughout Iraq.
