조지 부쉬 미국 대통령과 레젭 타입 에르도간 터키 총리가 테러주의자와 극단주의자들에 맞서 함께 싸우기로 약속했습니다. 두 정상은 2일 백악관에서 정상회담을 갖고 이같이 밝혔습니다.
한편 회담에 앞서 압둘라 굴 터키 외무장관은 터키가 쿠르드 저항 세력과 맞서기 위해 미국 및 이라크와 중대한 협력을 기대하고 있다고 말했었습니다.
굴 장관은 뉴스위크와의 인터뷰에서 쿠르드 노동당의 무장세력들이 시리아에서 이라크 북부로 이동했으며, 이들이 이라크 군의 무기와 폭발물을 탈취해서 터키에서의 저항 활동에 사용하고 있다고 말했습니다.
굴 장관은 만약 우방국들의 협조가 없을 경우 터키가 단독 행동을 취할 것이라고 말했습니다.

The two leaders spoke to reporters after meeting at the White House today (Monday), but did not take any questions.
Before the talks, Turkey's Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said his country expected "serious cooperation" from the United States and Iraq in countering Turkey's Kurdish rebels.
In a "Newsweek" magazine interview, Gul said leaders of the Kurdistan Workers Party have moved from Syria to northern Iraq, and that militants are taking Iraqi army weapons and explosives and using them in Turkey.
The Turkish foreign minister says Ankara might take unilateral action if its friends do not help with the situation.
