북대서양 조약기구 나토 당국은 동부 아프가니스탄지역에서 미군의 지휘하에 있던 만 2천여 명의 병력에 대한 지휘권을 며칠안에 이양받을 것이라고 말했습니다.
나토 대변인은, 1일, 이로써 아프가니스탄에서 국제 안보 지원 병력의 확대가 완성될 것이라고 말했습니다. 이 대변인은 또 아프가니스탄에 있는 미군 병력의 전반적 수준은 변하지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.
알 카에다 테러 분자를 색출하거나 공중 작전에 투입되어 있는 약 8천명의 미군 병력은 그대로 미군 사령부의 지휘아래 남게 됩니다. 이 같은 발표는 하미드 카르자이 아프간 대통령이 국제 사회에 과격 분자들의 훈련장들을 분쇄하도록 아프간에 대한 지원을 촉구한지 하룻만에 나온 것입니다.
카르자이 대통령은 또 페르베즈 무샤라프 파키스탄 대통령이 아프가니스탄내 이슬람 과격 분자들을 분쇄하기로 약속했다고 말했습니다.

NATO says it will take command in a few days of up to 12 thousand troops that have been under authority of the U.S. military in eastern Afghanistan.
A NATO spokesman (Mark Laity) said today (Sunday) that the consolidation would complete the expansion of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.
The spokesman says the overall American force level in the country will not change. About eight thousand U.S. troops tracking al-Qaida terrorists, or involved in aerial operations will remain under direct U.S. Command.
The announcement came a day after Afghan President Hamid Karzai called on the international community to assist his country in its efforts to close down sanctuaries where extremists train.
He said Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has promised to crack down on Islamist militants in his country.
