South Korea and the United States are to hold their fourth round of free trade talks next month, despite the lack of a breakthrough during previous talks.
South Korea's government said today (Wednesday) that five days of talks will begin October 23rd on the southern resort island of Jeju.
The last round of talks ended this month without any significant progress, particularly in the area of protective tariffs.
The talks face several obstacles, including South Korean farmers, who strongly oppose opening agricultural markets to cheaper imports.
South Korea vows rice will be left out of any deal, but Washington says rice and other farm products must be part of a comprehensive agreement.
If an agreement is reached, it would be the biggest U.S. free-trade deal since the North American Free Trade Agreement in the early 1990s.
