조지 부쉬 미국 대통령은 아프가니스탄에서 벌어지고 있는 전투가 전 세계가 겪고 있는 테러와의 전쟁의 일부라고 말했습니다.
부쉬 대통령은 26일 백악관에서 하미드 카르자이 대통령과 양국 정상회담을 마친 뒤 가진 기자회견에서 “미국은 아프가니스탄 정부가 테러리스트를 성공적으로 무찌를 수 있도록 도울 의지가 있다”고 말했습니다. 부쉬 대통령은 이어 “탈레반과 알카이다가 아프가니스탄의 민주주의를 좌절시키고, 세계를 향해서 공격을 가하려고 하고 있다”고 말했습니다.
카르자이 대통령은 부쉬 대통령과 미국 국민에게 아프가니스탄을 도와준 데 대한 감사의 뜻을 표했습니다. 그는 또 양국 정상이 아프가니스탄의 재건과 파키스탄과의 관계를 포함한 지역 문제 등 다양한 주제에 대해 논의했다고 밝혔습니다.
두 정상은 27일 페르베즈 무샤라프 파키스탄 대통령과 3자 회동을 가질 예정입니다.

President Bush says the fighting in Afghanistan is part of the larger global struggle against terrorism.
In a joint news conference at the White House with Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai today (Tuesday), Mr. Bush said Americans have the will to help the government in Kabul succeed in defeating terrorists. He said the Taleban and al-Qaida are trying to defeat democracy in the South Asian country so they can launch attacks around the world.
Mr. Karzai said he is grateful to Mr. Bush and the American people for helping his country. He said the two leaders discussed a variety of issues, including the reconstruction of Afghanistan and regional issues including Kabul's relationship with Pakistan.
On Wednesday, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will join the two leaders for a joint session at the White House.
