미국의 조지 부쉬 대통령은 22일 파키스탄의 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령과 만나 테러와의 전쟁에 관해 논의했습니다.
오늘 정상회담에 앞서 무샤라프 대통령은 미국 CBS 방송 ‘60분’과의 인터뷰에서 지난 2001년 9.11 테러사건이 발생한 이후 미국이 주도하는 테러와의 전쟁에 협력하지않는다면 파키스탄을 폭격하겠다고 미국이 위협했었다고 밝혔습니다.
무샤라프 대통령은 리차드 아미티지 당시 미 국무부 부장관이 그같이 위협했다고 말했습니다.
아미티지 전 미 국무부 부장관은 파키스탄이 미국 편에 서지않으면 적이 될 것이라는 강경한 메시지를 전한 것은 사실이지만 파키스탄을 폭격하겠다고 위협한 일은 없다고 부인했습니다.
토니 스노우 백악관 대변인은 폭격위협을 하는 것은 미국의 정책이 아니라고 기자들에게 말했습니다.
이날 정상회담에서 부쉬 미국 대통령과 무샤라프 파키스탄 대통령은 파키스탄과 아프가니스탄 국경지역에 은신하고있는 것으로 알려진 알-카에다 지도자 오사마 빈 라덴 검거문제에 촛점을 맞출 것으로 보입니다.

President Bush is meeting with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf at the White House for talks on the war on terrorism.Ahead of the talks, General Musharraf told CBS television (60 Minutes) the United States threatened to bomb Pakistan if it did not cooperate in the U.S.-led war on terror after the September 11th attacks in 2001. He said (in the interview to be broadcast Sunday) the threat came from then-Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.
Armitage says he never threatened to bomb Pakistan, but that he gave a tough message, saying either Pakistan is "with us or against us."
The White House spokesman (Tony Snow) told reporters U.S. policy is not to issue bombing threats.
Today's talks between Mr. Bush and General Musharraf are likely to focus on the ongoing hunt for al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, who is thought to be hiding along the Pakistani-Afghan border.
