오는 25일 교황의 여름 관저 ‘카스텔 간돌포’에서 열리는 이번 회담에는 회교계 종교지도자들도 초청됐습니다.
베네딕토 16세는 회교와 폭력에 관한 발언은 자신의 견해를 반영하는 것이 아니며 유일신을 믿는 종교로서 회교도들을 깊이 존중한다고 말했습니다.
교황은 지난주 독일에서 연설하며 회교 예언자 모하메트의 가르침은 사악하고 비인간적인 것이라는 14세기 비잔틴 제국 황제의 말을 인용해 회교도들의 분노하게했습니다.
베네딕토 16세는 또한 회교도들의 ‘지하드’, 즉 성전을 가리키며 폭력은 신의 정서에 맞지않는 것이라고 말했었습니다.

Pope Benedict has invited the ambassadors of Muslim countries to the Vatican to meet with him next week in an effort to explain comments about Islam that the Roman Catholic leader says were misunderstood.
Monday's meeting at Castel Gandolfo, the pope's summer residence, will also include Muslim religious leaders.
Pope Benedict said the comment about Islam and violence are not his own views. He says he deeply respects Muslims as worshippers of one god.
Speaking in Germany last week, the pope quoted a 14th century Byzantine emperor who called some of the teachings of the prophet Muhammad evil and inhumane. Benedict also mentioned the Islamic concept of jihad (holy war), and he said violence is not compatible with the nature of God.
