아흐마디네자드 대통령은 17일 베네주엘라의 카라카스에 도착했습니다. 아흐마디네자드 대통령과 차베스 대통령은 모두 미국에 대해 비판을 가하고 있습니다. 양국 지도자들은 앞서 쿠바에서 지난 16일 폐막된 비동맹운동 정상회의에 참석했었습니다.
이란은 자제 핵무기 개발계획을 둘러싸고 미국을 비롯한 서방 국가들과 의견 충돌을 빚고 있습니다. 미국은 이란이 핵무기를 개발하려 하고 있다고 비난하고 있으나 이란은 자체 핵 활동들은 모두 평화적인 목적의 것이라고 주장하고 있습니다.
베네주엘라는 유엔안전보장이사회 순번제 의석을 노리고 있으나 미국은 이를 지지하지 않고 있습니다.

Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is in Venezuela for talks on energy and other matters with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Mr. Ahmadinejad arrived today (Sunday) in Caracas. He and Mr. Chavez are vocal critics of the United States. The two were previously in Cuba for a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement which ended Saturday. Iran is at odds with the United States and other Western nations over its nuclear program. The United States accuses Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, while Tehran says its activities are for peaceful purposes. Venezuela is seeking a rotating seat on the United Nations Security Council, a move not supported by Washington.
