이스라엘 정부는 가자지구 서안의 정착지대에 약 7백채의 주택을 건설하기로 했습니다. 이번에 건설하려는 유대 정착촌은 지난 5월 에후드 올메르트 총리가 집권한 이래 승인된 최대 규모의 건설 계획입니다.
이스라엘 주택부는 예루살렘 부근의 인구가 도합 6만여명에 이르는 말레 아두밈과 베이타르 일리트 두 정착촌에서의 주택 건설 계획을 위해 현지신문에 입찰광고를 냈습니다.
그러나 팔레스타인 관리들은 이같은 계획은 이스라엘에 대해 가자지구 서안의 정착촌 건설을 동결토록 한 중동평화 청사진 위반이라고 비난했습니다.
텔아비브 주재 미국대사관 대변인은 이스라엘은 정착촌을 확대해서는 안된다고 말했습니다.

Israel's government is seeking bids for the construction of nearly 700 housing units in two West Bank settlements.
The Jewish settlement construction project is the largest proposed by the government of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert since it took office in May.
Israel's housing ministry published advertisements in local newspapers inviting bids for Maaleh Adumim and Beitar Illit, settlements near Jerusalem with a combined population of more than 60-thousand.
Palestinian officials quickly condemned the plan, calling it a violation of the U.S.-backed road map peace plan, which calls on Israel to freeze construction of settlements in the West Bank.
A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv said Israel should not expand settlements.
